Outline
The simulator is designed for instruction of gastric lavage through nasal and oral passage. It features realistic landmarks in the transparent abdomen “window” including trachea, esophagus, lungs, and stomach etc. It also designed for practicing of gastrointestinal care procedures via nasal and oral access. For exceptional realism, mucous-like fluids can be simulated as a real patient. Fluid can be added to the lungs and stomach for realistic gastric lavage and suctioning.
Skills Gained
· NG tube insertion & irrigation
· Gastrointestinal decompression
· Sampling and collection of gastric juice
· Aspiration of oxygen
· Oral care
· Oropharyngeal and nasopharyngeal insertion and suctioning
· Endotracheal tube placement
Features
· Realism: Realism of appearance necessary to provide realistic practice for trainees
· Anatomy:
1) Anatomical structures in the transparent window can be observed including teeth, tongue, uvula, glottis, epiglottis, larynx, esophagus, stomach, trachea, bronchia, lungs, diaphragm, liver, spleen, pancreas, small intestine and colon etc.
2) Accuracy of the nose-earlobe-xiphoid distance
· Versatility:
1) It can be posited as 30°supine and sitting up position
2) The head can rotate 45° to one side and perform forward & backward flexion
· Key Features:
1) Gastric lavage measures including: lavage via oral and nasal passage with stomach pump, aspirator etc.
2) Eyelids can be manually opened to observe the pupils
3) Simulate carotid pulse by squeezing the inflating bulb
4) The injected simulated fluid can be easily drained away from digestive tract after simulation
5) Sengstaken-Blakemore tube (latex material) can be inserted through the nose or mouth, and Inflate the tube to immobilize it
